The Purpose of Life was the last poem that I wrote in this collection, and like all the others it simply flowed once I started to write, but unlike most of them, it came in response to me asking the specific question, what is the purpose of life?
The only other poem that I wrote in response to a specific mental question was ‘Assertiveness’
I think the purpose of life is one of my best and most important. I say this because it has helped me to undestand why with all the knowledge we have from history of our understanding cause and effect we still make choices that make our lives more difficult than they need to be.
This poem has helped me understand why we do this. If we didn’t and we did everything perfectly, never making a mistake, never causing ourselves or others hurt or loss, loving and accepting ourselves would be easy, there would be no challenge. And a challenge is what we want!
We need to make mistakes, to be overwhelmed with emotions, so we can create situations that require forgiveness or maybe difficult to accept.
I believe this poem is saying that is why we are here in this limited human form, when our true self is unlimited. And when we tire of the game we simply follow the guidance in this poem and have a rest in the peace and love that is our true self.
The Purpose of Life
The purpose of life, is the challenge to love
The challenge is won when love is allowed
When fear is discarded and just thrown away
And love and acceptance take control of the thoughts
When envy and hate and jealousy and anger
Are left to fend alone with themselves
And love and acceptance become the life
You choose to live and to enjoy
That is the challenge, the purpose of life
So win the challenge and believe in love
And never doubt the love that you feel
Never doubt that love is real
For within true love, true wisdom is found
Answers pour forth and solutions are clear
For love is the source and so is the end.
